As the curtain rose on the 17th season of Dancing with the Gloucester County Stars, hosted by the Greater Woodbury Chamber of Commerce, the excitement in the air was palpable. The event features participants paired with professional dancers. Judges critique performances and share special routines. The night’s personal stories and heartfelt motivations highlighted the community spirit, making it clear that the event was much more than just entertainment.
This year, Joel Dougherty is representing the Gloucester County YMCA branch of YMCA of the Pines as he took the stage to support the Y’s Keeping Kids Active Summer Campaign. This campaign aims to keep children engaged and active during the summer, countering the common decline in academic skills that affects 75% of elementary students during the break. The Gloucester County YMCA branch offers a safe, active environment that supports both physical and educational development through dedicated counselors who serve as positive role models. Joel, passionate about the YMCA’s mission, said, “As a child, my core memories of summer were trying new things and staying active. I wish I had a place like the YMCA to engage with my community and build lasting connections. I support the YMCA because I believe in its mission to strengthen communities and improve lives. Its commitment to inclusivity and diversity resonates with me, as it brings people from all backgrounds together. I’m passionate about the YMCA’s focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, areas I hope to nurture further in Gloucester County. By dancing on behalf of the YMCA, I feel I am making a meaningful difference and helping create a positive impact that will last for generations.” Joel Dougherty’s passion really shows how the Gloucester County YMCA branch is making a big difference in kids’ lives, helping them stay active and engaged while building a strong community.
