A camp alum wrote to us (at info@ycamp.org) a few months back, asking if he could buy a water bottle from camp’s famous Trading Post. Since he was deployed with the US Navy, we sent him the water bottle (along with a complimentary camp T-shirt) free of charge. We only asked that he send us a photo of him and the camp water bottle. Below is his letter. Just another example of camp’s good reputation being spread far and wide!

Hey there, camp friends!

I received the water bottle you guys sent me a couple weeks ago, but we’ve been really busy out here in the gulf on our deployment defending the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69, and I haven’t had a good chance to take a pic. I finally had the perfect opportunity to get a good picture taken while we were doing a replenishment at sea. In the background you can see the missile deck of my ship CG 56 USS San Jacinto up close on the left, along with our big gun down on the fantail. On the right is T-AOE-8 USNS Arctic, which is a support ship. They load on stores and fuel and come and give them to us while we are out at sea every so often. A couple pictures of our last replenishment-at-sea (RAS) can be found on the IKE’s facebook page at this link- https://www.facebook.com/TheCVN69/posts/1299542980078843 . There’s two ways they get this done. One way is shown on the IKE’s facebook page in the picture where our three ships are linked. This is called CONREP, short for connected replenishment. The ships connect up and transfer fuel with those long lines, as well as pallets of stores with a system that works a lot like a zip line.  The other way is shown in the attached picture and is called VERTREP, short for vertical replenishment. Helicopters fly pallets from the supply ship onto their destination ship. After the pallets make it onto our ship we offload them by making a big human chain. We try to get this done as quickly as possible so we can make room for more pallets. If we’re lucky the shipment of stores will come with some mail for us! 🙂

I hope this message finds you all well. Thanks again for the water bottle and the shirt.
