On a recent camp day, some of our Ockanickon campers had an overnight “camp out” in the woods. Even though they were already at sleepaway camp, the campers packed up the belongings from their cabins, and ventured off into our own wild. There, they pitched tents, made a campfire, cooked meals, made s’mores and generally enjoyed the camaraderie. The experience gave them a different perspective of camp and its beautiful, magical surroundings.

Here’s how one of the Village Chiefs described waking up the next morning:

“I woke up in the tent early in August and braved the morning air. The sun peered through the trees as we tidied away the tents and cleaned the campsite. Leaving the area, we headed back toward Ocky, winding through a woodland path that took us right next to Lake Stockwell. The first light of the sun had been warming the lake such that the top layer had begun to gently rise and swirl into the sky. The thin mist mingled with the sun’s rays and all of the braves began to take notice of the spectacle. It was the first time that I had seen that sight and I’m sure that it was the same for many of the braves. Definitely a good start to the morning.” ——-    Kieran Dewsnap, Newquay, Cornwall, England
