Paddle boards are a big hit this summer!

By |2019-07-11T16:44:57-04:00July 11th, 2019|

By Emily, Lake Stockwell Day Camp Last week, Lake Stockwell Day Camp had 15 new paddle boards delivered for our boating program. They are a hit already! Paddle boards are really easy to use as you can sit, kneel or stand on them. They are lots of fun and our campers are getting really good at using them. However, if anyone does fall off, it’s a great chance to go swimming and boating which the campers have named 'swoating'. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1973548726274560/?ref=bookmarks

Summer camp – it’s not just for little kids. (Teens love it, too!)

By |2019-07-10T12:30:59-04:00July 10th, 2019|

by Lynn Passarella, Director of Lake Stockwell Day Camp Not everyone knows this, but camp is great place for teens, too! Our Explorers program has been a real hit this summer! This week, we have over 90 of our older campers - ages 12 to 15 - participating in this program. It's one of our biggest enrollment weeks in the history of Lake Stockwell - and we're so glad to see the program growing! Our Explorers program is designed to meet the needs of teens. Their schedule is based on choice as they, by this age, have likely already decided [...]

Even archery is theme-specific at Lake Stockwell!

By |2019-07-09T14:26:53-04:00July 9th, 2019|

by Jessica Dicken, Lake Stockwell Day Camp Our archery director, Kira, has been working extremely hard this week to make sure that our campers are having the best experience possible during Session 3! One of the ways that she has been doing this is by creating a Pokémon atmosphere at her archery range. Our campers have been having a ball trying to hit the Pokéball target, while continuing to build on their archery skills. Decorating her archery range to coordinate with our theme is just one of the ways Kira goes above and beyond to make sure that our campers [...]

A father’s perspective … wish we could bottle self-esteem that camp provides

By |2019-07-08T09:13:48-04:00July 5th, 2019|

by Rick Worrell, Lake Stockwell Day Camp As we close out Session 2 at Lake Stockwell Day Camp, I consider the importance of the role that camp plays in our lives. I have two children who have attended camp since they were five. Both attended Stockwell, Ockanickon, and Matollionequay. My son, 17, is now a counselor at Ockanickon, the boys overnight camp. My daughter, 11, goes to both Stockwell and Matollionequay, the girls overnight camp. Like many of your children, they couldn’t wait to get to camp each day. Whether it was friends, counselors, or activities, they were always excited [...]

Meet our waterfront staff

By |2019-07-04T21:04:14-04:00July 4th, 2019|

by Lynn Passarella, Director of Lake Stockwell Here at our camp, we have a wonderful dedicated team of lifeguards who look after our waterfront. The camp is split into  two different beaches for the different age groups; the older tribes going to Cherokee Beach where the head lifeguard is Hanz. The younger tribes use Bette's Beach, where the head lifeguard is Lauren.   At the beach, the campers like to play tag in the water and, of course, that classic game Marco Polo. Sometimes, they make sandcastles. We also have a wide range of fun toys, including pool noodles and [...]

Our “home grown” staffers at Lake Stockwell

By |2019-07-04T10:18:25-04:00July 4th, 2019|

by Lynn Passarella, Director of Lake Stockwell Day Camp One of my favorite things about Lake Stockwell Day Camp is watching the campers grow into staff members. Out of the 100+ staff members we have here at Stockwell this summer, 34 of them have been campers here at some point in their lives. Whether they were Seneca campers, Explorer campers, or even Counselor-in-Training participants, each of them were part of our day camp program. This summer, there are a few staff members working here for the first time and there are a few staff members who are working here for [...]

A sandy circus at Cherokee Beach!

By |2019-07-02T14:11:49-04:00July 2nd, 2019|

Today our third and fourth grade campers were able to partake in our first-ever circus-themed sand castle contest! Cherokee Beach was filled with smiling faces and handcrafted sandcastles covering the sand.   Campers were able to work together as a team to try and build a replica of various circus-themed items that were randomly assigned to them. Our campers truly brought this week’s special event to life as they constructed their clowns, circus tents and animals.

Preschoolers try out their dance moves

By |2019-07-01T15:25:48-04:00July 1st, 2019|

Today (July 1),  our Music Director Sarah visited our preschoolers at Pomona Lodge! The energetic 3- and 4-year-olds showed off their dance moves by dancing to some music.  Everyone enjoyed dancing to “I like to Move It” from the movie, Madagascar. (If you don't know this adorable song, check it out on YouTube.) Sarah also taught our youngest campers a new camp song called Chili Chili. This catchy song had every kid singing. While the kids were singing they all showed off their own special dance moves! Our music director loved dancing with our preschoolers and she is excited to [...]
