Two Words: Friendship Bracelets

By |2012-04-19T11:59:40-04:00April 19th, 2012|

One of the things that come to my mind when I hear the word “Camp” is friendship bracelets. I know many of you can agree that these bracelets are a staple here at Camp. Whether you are a staff member or a camper, you still enjoy creating and wearing these bracelets that someone has made specifically for you. You probably have spent half the summer looking for tape or using your Village Chief’s clipboard to hold your bracelet in place. By the end of the summer you have made or worn tons of bracelets that can probably fill your entire [...]

I have an Anouncement!

By |2012-04-17T11:40:50-04:00April 17th, 2012|

These words can start up the whole Matolly Dining Hall in a matter of seconds. Whenever a staff member says the word "announcement" the girls in the Dining Hall automatically start singing "The Announcement Song." Lately, the song has been stuck in my head A LOT! Our two-year old daughter loves to sing "Row Row Row Your Boat!" Brent has recently taught her to say, "Ha Ha, fooled you, I'm a Submarine!" at the end of the song. I can't help but laugh everytime I hear her do that - it brings back so many memories. I know the Matolly [...]

What’s in the Greenhouse!

By |2012-04-15T17:19:59-04:00April 15th, 2012|

It was an amazing week over at the Camp greenhouse! This past week the greenhouse received a new fence, potting soil, and a bountiful amount of new baby plants! A huge thanks to Jamie and Jeff for helping put the new fence up, which has given our greenhouse a private area to help seeds grow. Even bigger thanks to Dave, Ruben and Sophia for planting peppers, lettuce, cucumbers and plenty of perennials to help make Camp look even more beautiful!

Feeding Nature…

By |2012-04-15T10:13:26-04:00April 15th, 2012|

Hello all!! This week’s recpie will be a little different than we are used to. In fact it’s not even for us humans. Aside from being a Chef, I also find myself intrested in gardening and I am a general appreciator of all things created by Mother Nature. Which brings me to this simple, inexpensive recpie for Humming Bird nectar. […]

The Class of ’06

By |2012-04-14T10:59:47-04:00April 14th, 2012|

The bonds created between staff members who work together at Camp are incredibly strong, mostly because we go through such an incredible, non-stop 2-month experience together.  We have to rely on one another to get through the summer in one piece.  Camp is definitely a team sport.  These bonds between staff are very special and often times last an entire lifetime.  Typically, the more summers the relationships as staff members last, the longer those relationships will continue into the future.  I truly believe this will be the case for the Ocky CIT's of 2006.  I always have high hopes for [...]

Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge Comes to Camp!

By |2012-04-12T14:33:52-04:00April 12th, 2012|

Yesterday our friend, Erin, from Cedar Run came to visit us! She brought three different types of birds with her for our 55 campers to see. It was really neat to learn about where the birds came from, what they eat, and their personality. My personal favorite was the owl (pictured below).  A big THANK YOU goes to Erin and all of our friends from Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford! It has been one great week here at Camp with our Spring Break Vacation Camp. I cannot believe that tomorrow is the last day! :( Another big THANK YOU goes to [...]

A Thought Of The Day…

By |2012-04-11T18:01:51-04:00April 11th, 2012|

SMILE! She smiled at a sorrowful stranger... The smile seemed to make him feel better... He remembered past kindnesses of a friend And wrote him a thank you letter... The friend was so pleased with the thank you That he left a large tip after lunch... The waitress, surprised by the size of the tip, Bet the whole thing on a hunch... The next day she picked up her winnings, And gave part to a man on the street... The man on the street was grateful; For two days he'd had nothing to eat... After he finished his dinner, He [...]

So Fresh and So Clean!

By |2012-04-10T14:28:33-04:00April 10th, 2012|

1 part bleach, 10 parts water. Add pollen, stink bugs, spider webs, dirty socks, and a whole bunch of dirt. What do you get? That's right, James Otwell, Rich Rupert, and myself spent the day opening up the camp cabins for the Spring. What goes into getting the cabins ready? I'm glad you asked. Each mattress is wiped down with a bleach solution, as well are the canvas' that they lay on. Cabins are swept from every nook and corner and all the little critters that made the villages their home are quietly evicted and given more appropriate living quarters. [...]

Today we had School's Out @ Camp. Since all the local schools are on Spring Break this week, kids can register to spend the day at Camp! We had such a fun day! Despite a little wind, we were busy doing shelter building, archery, landsports, gaga, arts & crafts and candle making! Check out a few of our expert candle makers busy at work! We are all looking forward to a great week at Camp! Our friends from Cedar Run will be joining us on Wed for an awesome presentation. We hope to see you there!

Easter at Camp…

By |2012-04-08T05:36:17-04:00April 8th, 2012|

Greetings to everyone on this Easter morning! We, at Camp, have had a very special weekend indeed... starting with our annual Breakfast with the Bunny on Saturday morning. Over 200 folks came out to see our furry friend, eat a delicious breakfast prepared by myself and our staff, share some community spirit and, most importantly, celebrate Easter with us. After filling up on big breakfast spread including scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, fresh baked muffins, fresh fruit salad... just to name a few... the guest of honor made an appearance. The Bunny posed for photos and then joined [...]
