Session 7 Family Night

By |2010-08-13T06:29:20-04:00August 13th, 2010|

Thank you so much to all of the campers, staff, parents and friends who joined us on Wednesday night! What a great opportunity to meet new people and experience camp together! After enjoying the delicious bbq dinner provided by Chef Jason and his crew, campers were able to show their families around and make some time for a bit of swimming, boating, archery or ga-ga. Once it got dark, we had to send folks home so they could get a good nights sleep before another big day at Camp on Thursday!

The Triangle Swim…

By |2010-08-11T18:50:17-04:00August 11th, 2010|

Hello Friends... There is a long standing tradition here at Camp... a competition between the Ocky Boys and the Matolly Girls. It's a swimming event called "The Triangle Swim" and it is open to all the male and female Counselors and Village Chiefs. The big swim is held every year during the 4th session on the middle Sunday at the Ockanickon Waterfront. The swimmers start from the dock at Ocky, swim across to the dock at our Family Swim Center, over to the dock at "Tee-pee Island" and back to the Ocky Waterfront, touching the lifeguard stand as the finish [...]

Yesterday was a perfect day for swimming in Lake Stockwell! The sun was bright and the water was extra refreshing. We made plenty of time for swim lessons and some rec swim. Take a peek at this photo of one of the classes enjoying one last jump before the period ended:

All work and no play…

By |2010-08-11T05:20:39-04:00August 11th, 2010|

Hello everyone... "All work and no play" is not something you'll hear anyone around Camp say. There's always a little time to unwind or join in on some fun!! As I drove by the Matolly field yesterday late in the afternoon, I recognized a very familiar face. Gab, our Matolly Camp Director and my better half, was joined in an exhilarating game of Monkey Ball with our youngest village, the Cherokees. Monkey Ball appears to be, from my inexperienced view, very similar to Soccer, except you use your hands instead of feet to bat the ball around on the ground [...]

Ocky L.I.T.’s shadowing the Kitchen Staff

By |2010-08-10T17:57:47-04:00August 10th, 2010|

Hello dear Readers... This Monday & Tuesday we, in the Ockanickon Kitchen, had the pleasure of hosting the Ocky L.I.T. Boys as part of their training program. "Shadowing" is the practice of observing someone at their job to... well... see what they do and how they do it! The L.I.T.'s shadow various staff and programs around Camp to get a taste of the "behind-the-scenes" action in the hopes to give them a better understanding of what makes Camp tick. Personally, I love the program and feel it offers an opportunity for an initial connection, the first step in a relationship [...]

Arrrrrgh – Pirate Week @ Lake Stockwell!

By |2010-08-08T17:27:39-04:00August 8th, 2010|

Each week, every village creates, organizes and produces a skit to perform before ceremonies on Friday afternoon. Oftentimes, the weekly themes and 4 core values provide inspiration for these masterpieces. Pirate week was no exception! Check out the photos of the Shawnees (before their skit) and Algonquins (performing their skit) below:

Fishing at Lake Stockwell

By |2010-08-04T06:51:14-04:00August 4th, 2010|

The fish are really biting this week at Lake Stockwell! We offer fishing as a "Choice" activity and the campers have had some pretty successful days lately. Ross, our lead counselor at fishing, is patient and enthusiastic - he's definitely molding some fine young fishermen and women :)
