Mmmmmmmm… BBQ!

By |2010-07-11T19:20:40-04:00July 11th, 2010|

Hello Friends... Tonight was Barbecue Night!!! The Girls from Matolly traveled down to the Ocky Amphitheater in front of the Dining Hall to join the Boys for our mouth watering, traditional BBQ. The menu included hamburgers with all the fixins', hot dogs, BBQ chicken, and Chef Jason's Famous Sweet and (slightly) Spicy Ribs. Along side the entrees we served up a big batch of potato salad, a tossed garden salad, chips and all the "bug juice" and water you could drink! For dessert... Popsicles!! The tasty fare was coupled with lots and lots of sing-a-longs and a few repeat-after-me songs. [...]

Blueberry Day!

By |2010-07-11T09:36:10-04:00July 11th, 2010|

It’s already Session 2! I’m Cristina Lepore, the Seneca Village Chief. The first week of Session 2 was great! It was pretty hot, but we were able to stay hydrated and keep our spirits up! Swimming and boating ranked at the top of our favorite activities! We have a great staff over here at Matolly, and we owe them all a big thank you for giving their all to our campers every single day. […]

Dance Night!!!

By |2010-07-10T18:50:53-04:00July 10th, 2010|

On a slightly damp Saturday, both Ocky and Matolly held their "Special Events Day"... and certainly didn't let a little rain slow down the fun. Ocky hosted their annual "Ocky Olympics", dividing campers of various ages in to countries (teams) and ran through a gamut of challenges. On the girls side of Camp, the yearly "Blueberry Day" was held with a similar team challenge theme. After a delicious lasagna dinner both Camps met up at the Matolly tennis courts for the sessions co-ed dance where our resident Internationally renowned DJ, Anthony Orange (New Zealand) spun some energizing music that got [...]

Charlotte goes for her first dip in Squaw Lake.

By |2010-07-08T17:40:22-04:00July 8th, 2010|

Hello dear Friends... While trying to find my bearings with this new Blog format I accidentally erased a post I wrote a few days ago. I'll attempt to paraphrase it here again although it probably won't be as good as the original. On Monday evening our own Matollionequay Girls Camp Director (and my lovely wife) took our 7 month old baby girl, Charlotte, down to the beach on Squaw Lake to meet the Mohawk Girls and to take her first dip in the water. Needless to say, Charlotte had a blast splashing in the cedar water of our gorgeous lake. [...]

Stockwell Kids are Ga-Ga for GA-GA!

By |2010-07-08T11:33:00-04:00July 8th, 2010|

We can't get enough Ga-Ga at Camp...and we love our new court! Ga-Ga is a perfect pick-up game that's easy, fun and fast-paced. It's often called "Israeli dodgeball." We had the opportunity to teach a bunch of our parents at Family Night last night. Check out our new court below:

It was a warm but wonderful day at Lake Stockwell! We had extra periods of swimming, lots of water breaks and some awesome water relays at landsports. Check out the start of swim lessons  at Bette's Beach: Don't forget to drink lots of water at home tonight so that we can be ready to go and feeling good tomorrow!

Session 2 – CIT Initiative

By |2010-07-05T08:59:24-04:00July 5th, 2010|

Our CITs (Counselors In Training) have been here for just over a week now. The 5 week program consists of workshops and hands on experiences that focus on what it takes to be a positive role model and camp counselor. We've attached a couple of  pictures of our 2010 CITs participating in a teambuilding initiative and taking advantage of an opportunity to act a little silly :) I can't wait to see this outstanding group of young leaders continue to grow over the next 4 weeks!

Session 1 Overnight

By |2010-07-01T18:18:06-04:00July 1st, 2010|

We had perfect weather, a beautiful campfire, yummy s'mores and a group of enthusiastic campers for our first overnight of the summer. We started the evening with a lakeside hike out to our camp site, followed by some games and singing. Then, Anthony, Camp Ockanickon's waterfront director helped us cook some DELICIOUS hot dogs and hamburgers over the fire . Once we finished dinner (and s'mores, obviously!), we did a stick dedication ceremony and headed to our tents so that we could be ready for another exciting day at Stockwell on Thursday. I must say, it was a great night!
