Stockwell Day Camp

Helping Hands – Part 2

After I saw all of Joe's awesome signs around Camp that he made here, I thought to myself how neat it would be to create new signs for Stockwell Field. Before Tuesday, our village signs had fallen apart, cracked, or had gone missing since the last time they were made. Since we added 3 new villages this summer, we definitely needed to come up with something fast for our campers. Steph Ward and Sam Smith spent the day with me, on Tuesday, helping create and paint 14 village signs and 1 for our entrance! Today, the three of us drilled them [...]

Helping Hands

There is only 25 days until the first day of Day Camp and there are still many things to be done. We are still finalizing schedules, cleaning up and organizing our ordered supplies, and planning our special events for each week. I am very grateful to have such a great staff that is willing to go above and beyond what is expected. I couldn’t ask for a better group to be dedicated to Camp than these certain staff members. A big special thanks goes to four of Lake Stockwell’s leadership staff, Steph Ward, Sam Smith, Josh Matukonis and Tom Logue, [...]

Words of Wisdom

The opportunities here at Camp are endless. Keep this quote in mind when you are trying something new. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sail. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

L.L. Bean at YMCA Camps of Medford

For our members who come out to Camp during the summer, you might wonder why there is a stack of kayaks at Cherokee Beach and why we are not able to use them. Of course we have plenty of (New) kayaks and boats this summer and well, technically, you are able to use L.L. Bean’s, but you would need to sign-up for a special class offered through L.L. Bean in Marlton. Each summer for the past couple of years, the L.L. Bean Outdoor Discovery School has been offering affordable beginner kayaking classes open to the entire community. I had the [...]

Can you believe there is only 44 days left until the first day of Camp?! Everyone on Camp is super busy planning for the start of the summer season. Yesterday, Brent Birchler and Dave Kaubin spent their morning installing the Stockwell Water Inflatable! A big thanks goes to those guys; our campers love the slide! This year, each of our fourteen villages will have a period of slide times once a week. The slide will aslo be available during our Choice period. I am beyond excited for the first day and I hope you are too!

By |2012-05-05T15:07:17-04:00May 5th, 2012|

This past Friday I had the great pleasure of welcoming the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary to YMCA Camp Ockanickon. The purpose of their visit was to do safety checks on camps canoes, rowboats, PFD’s, paddles and oars. Take on Summer!

By |2012-04-26T11:19:12-04:00April 26th, 2012|

Did you know that a child's chance to stay active decreases after school ends for summer? Even though summer has the potential of one to become active and explore something new, summer also has the potential for one to sit at home and be a couch potato. This is where we come in! This weekend MaryAnn and I will be traveling to the Ambler and Abington YMCAs in Pennsylvania to be part of their 2012 Healthy Kids Day. We will be joining them in an effort to encourage kids and parents to not be that couch potato this summer and [...]
