Medford Works!

This Saturday Medford is hosting a new event called Medford Works! right on Main Street. Medford Works! is dedicated to the support, growth and shared success of Medford business and its greater community. Many businesses will have displays and sales including yours truly, YMCA Camp Ockanickon! Come out to see MaryAnn and I right by the gazebo between 12 pm and 4 pm! Abracadabra!!

On Friday, the children and staff at the School's Out Site at Chairville hosted their own Magic Show! It was awesome! All the kids did a magic trick - and there were some pretty amazing tricks! During intermission, a special treat was served and then it was right back to the tricks. Special thanks to Kelly and her hubby for making the stage! What an awesome job, School's Out!

Apple Cidering

This week we brought our apple cider press out of storage in preparation for our Fall line-up. Later this week, about 25 students from Chairville Elementary in Medford will join us for the first of many trips in a new partnership with the Chairville Outdoor club. Their first visit this year will be a wonderful afternoon learning about the history of cidering in New Jersey. Each student will get to bring home their very own fresh made apple cider! As you might have heard, the old Arts & Crafts building was recently knocked down after years of service to the YMCA Camps of Medford. It's history is long and it's memories arecountless to the thousands of people who call the YMCA Camps of Medford home. We are all very excited to open a new chapter here at Camp with the new Demartini Arts & Crafts Building. Hello dear readers... Here's a fantastic Potato Leek Soup recipe that is sure to warm you up on a chilly fall day. Ingridents: 1 pound leeks, cleaned and dark green sections removed, approximately 4 to 5 medium 3 tablespoons unsalted butter Heavy pinch kosher salt, plus additional for seasoning 14 ounces, approximately 3 small, Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced small 1 quart vegetable broth 1 cup heavy cream 1 cup buttermilk 1/2 teaspoon white pepper 1 tablespoon snipped chives Directions Chop the leeks into small pieces. Blind Awareness Month

October 1 marked the start of Blind Awareness Month and what better way to raise awareness then to have a benefit walk at the YMCA Camps of Medford! The Little Rock Foundation started the BAM Walk last year and this year they improved on participants this year. In total, 100 people (and a handful of dogs) make their way around Lake Stockwell, some even did the loop twice. All racers enjoyed a delicious BBQ and plenty of sunshine!
