Hello to one and all!!

My apologies for the lapse in postings here on our humble little blog. As you can tell, our website has received a gorgeous new makeover!! In the interim, our access to the blog was limited so not much got posted here for a little while. Personally, I am excited for our awesome team to start up again in the new year to bring you all the things we love to share with you. From recipes to event wrap-ups… pictures and inspirational quotes… heartfelt stories, camp history and the inside scoop on all sorts of various things going on out here at Camp.

How about the new website, huh? I am amazed at how far it has come. Being that I am entering my 18th year here at YMCA Camp Ockanickon, I have seen many, many incarnations of our website right from the very beginning. I remember when our former CEO, Gary Graham, snagged us possibly the greatest WWW address a YMCA Camp could ask for… ycamp.org!!

Under the lead of Gary’s successor, Fred Wasiak, I was granted permission to start our first blog that began as a great tool to reach all of you with pictures, video and updates on the reconstruction of the Andy Daly Dam at Camp Matollionequay. Practically every day I would drive to the site, talk to the construction crew, snap a few pictures and get everyone excited for the return of Squaw Lake.

Now under the leadership of our CEO, Keith VanDerzee, we have expanded the use of the blog to cover all aspects of Camp as I mentioned above… as well as a bigger presence on Facebook and all sorts of other social media outlets to keep Camp in your hearts and minds wherever you may be and wherever you turn in this digital age!!

Camp is still a place where you can “un-plug” and enjoy the serene natural environment amongst the pine trees and lakes… make life-long friendships and memories… and feel the magic of Camp. Our purpose here on the blog and elsewhere on the internet is to keep Camp close to you no matter where you are in the world. Whether you come to Summer Camp for two weeks, visit us daily in the summer as a Day Camper, come to one of our Family Camp Weekends, are involved with our After School Programs, with your school or group, hold a special event here with us… you are part of our Camp Family and we want you to stay connected with us.

2014 is already shaping up to be an epic year out here and we hope to see you all at some point. Keep your eyes on our Community Calendar for upcoming events throughout the year. We have a lot in store and there’s something for everyone!! And don’t forget to check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and our beloved email News Letter… all of which can be found as links on practically every page of the website.

Thanks for reading!

Be good…

Chef Jason
