As we begin Session 2 here at Matolly the water at Squaw Lake is clearer and warmer than ever thanks in large to our maintenance man Jamie for clearing our white section and spraying the bladderwort. The waterfront staff have a new look this summer with Marlana our director for the last 3 summers concentrating her energy of being Program Director. We have 6 new lifeguards from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as some familiar faces in Laura and Ailsa and even though I doubt that most of them don’t share their swimming pools back home with fish, turtles and frogs they have all taken to their new surroundings like they have always swum in a tea coloured lake. As for me, the thought of becoming waterfront director and filling Marlanas shoes was daunting but after 2 summers working here at the waterfront and with such a wonderful group of guards it has all gone swimmingly. The slide has this year again been a huge hit with the campers and with the villages also using it as an evening activity it is in full use. My personal favourite time to be at the waterfront is in evening for choice. As the campers walk along the sand to the beach, the sun is just sinking below the tree line and it looks beautiful. Now as the temperature here climbs to the mid 30s (or 100F for the Americans) I am glad I am spending my summer working at such a wonderful setting and with such great people.
