Hello all…

We have had quite a busy early March weekend here at the Ockanickon Dining Hall. Besides having two groups of students come through Camp for a few days… about 50 from Rowan and 60 from Camden Catholic… we also ran two unique cooking classes!!

First… on Friday night… yours truly hosted the first class in our 4 week “Learn To Cook” series. 11 students in total, with Mr. Rich Rupert and Mr. James Otwell helping out. The first lesson I teach is always sanitation and safety and proper etiquette in professional kitchen and then a tour of our big institutional kitchen!

Then, on to the fun stuff. We all got our hands messy making a classic favorite… Chocolate Chip Cookies. Well… not exactly Chocolate Chip Cookies. After we mixed up the batter everyone had some choices to make to customize their own cookies. Mini M&M’s, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and, of course, chocolate chips. All, some, none… mix and match… it was all up to the students!!

By the end of class everyone went home with about a dozen cookies except for Jack who used his dough to make two of the biggest cookies I ever saw!!

I can’t wait until next Friday where we will learn to make pizza dough from scratch!!

On Saturday we hosted Camp Little Rock and their “Cooking Without Looking” for their visually impaired campers. Everyone learned to make fun and delicious treats with the help of Chef Nadine, Debbie and Bella. Then the crew from Pizza Hut came by to teach us how to make pizza!!

Thanks to everyone who came out to all of our programs this weekend and kept me company in the Ockanickon Kitchen!!

Be good…

Chef Jason
