This past week, as you might have heard from Gab’s post, I was at the ACA Tri-State Camping Conference. The conference is a great opportunity for camps of all kinds to get together and hear from some of the leaders in the camping world.

I attended a session on creating a competitive advantage by going green. It was a very interesting session and gave me a lot of ideas about what I can take back to camp to help us make a positive impact on the place we are responsible for.

One little fact I learned from another camp was about a bio-degradable cleaner. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it takes the glass cleaner, the counter top cleaner, the toilet cleaner, and everything else and puts it all into one bottle. I thought to myself, why haven’t we started using this? So, I put together a bunch of facts about how it was more effective, actually less expense, and more versatile than what we already use.

I started to present this to Mike, our Property Director, ready with all sorts of information to convince him this was a good idea.

Guess what?

We already use it. And there are a dozen other “green” products and procedures he, Jason, and the rest of camp  is already using that I had no idea about.

Do you have any ideas about how camp could be less impactful on the environment? Let us know what they are.
