With snow and ice crystals flying outside, the children at Indian Mills School’s Out have been busy creating different kinds of cystals inside!  We made ice-like crystal gardens with salt, water and laundry bluing. Check out the recipe for Crystal Gardens below!

We have a talented group of weavers at IMS! We have wooven pot holders and primitive wall hangings. Several of the girls are learning spool knitting. Now they are working on belts and scarves!

Recipe for Crystal Gardens

2 tbsp water

2 tbsp salt

2 tbsp Mrs. Stewart’s Bluing (use must use Mrs. Stewarts’s – it’s the best!)

2 tbsp household Ammonia (optional – aids evaproation)

Mix salt and liquids. Pour into a glass or plasitc bowl. Place cardboard shape, sponge or pieces of old brick in solution. Growth should start in a few hours. On day 2 you can add more solution and a few drops of food coloring if you want to add some color!
