Blind Awareness Month

By |2011-10-01T16:17:54-04:00October 1st, 2011|

October 1 marked the start of Blind Awareness Month and what better way to raise awareness then to have a benefit walk at the YMCA Camps of Medford! The Little Rock Foundation started the BAM Walk last year and this year they improved on participants this year. In total, 100 people (and a handful of dogs) make their way around Lake Stockwell, some even did the loop twice. All racers enjoyed a delicious BBQ and plenty of sunshine! The Little Rock Foundation has been working with the YMCA Camps of Medford for over 10 years and the BAM Walk for [...]

A magical weekend…

Hello dear friends… Did you know we cater events here at Camp? I hope you did… but if not, now you do! My staff and I, with the help of the Group Services Staff and just about every one else around Camp prepared for and hosted a magical weekend wedding event over the last three days. Many hours were spent transforming all of Matolly in to a “destination wedding retreat” for our new friends Nick and Kate. Roads were groomed, the dining hall was scrubbed and polished, leaves were raked, chafing dishes were shined… […]

The YMCA Camps of Medford have been pretty quiet since Hurricane Irene passed through and this weekend we are extremely excited to have folks out at both camps. The Howell Girl Scouts arrived Friday evening with about 200 Girl Scouts and the University of Pennsylvania arrived Saturday morning with about 80 students. The Howell Girl Scouts have been coming to Camp Matollionequay […]

Anybody who has run around Camp Ockanickon’s trail system in the past couple of weeks must be wondering why some of our single track trails have started to look a little bigger and a little cleaner.

Going, Going, Green!

By |2011-03-22T15:00:09-04:00March 22nd, 2011|

This past week, as you might have heard from Gab’s post, I was at the ACA Tri-State Camping Conference. The conference is a great opportunity for camps of all kinds to get together and hear from some of the leaders in the camping world. I attended a session on creating a competitive advantage by going green. It was a very interesting session and gave me a lot of ideas about what I can take back to camp to help us make a positive impact on the place we are responsible for. One little fact I learned from another camp was [...]

Camp had a very special visit.

By |2010-11-26T17:37:53-05:00November 26th, 2010|

Hey folks! If you have visited Camp recently, or plan to visit soon, you will notice that the lakes look... well... a little empty. "Why?" you ask... well, I was wondering the same thing. Over all the years of working and living here at Camp, I never really knew why we lower the lakes every fall through the winter. I went straight to the source... our own Property Director, Mike Dzwill because surely he would have an answer for us. Mike informed me that lowering the lakes in the winter has a two-fold effect. One reason is to protect the [...]

Greetings Friends of Camp... Last weekend we had another hugely successful Roll Up Tour Sleeves Weekend!! We had about 60 participants come out and spend some time lending a hand to spruce up Camp.
