Exciting Career Opportunity

Program Instructor

We are looking for highly motivated team members to join us in delivering life-changing, mission-driven camp experiences to youth and families at YMCA Camp Ockanickon, Inc. The Outdoor Center has an amazing program that provides day and overnight camping to schools and other organizations with a focus on building healthier communities and stronger relationships.

As a Program Instructor, a typical day might include:

  • Helping a struggling child up the climbing wall.
  • Taking a Scout group through the woods to discover something new about our ecosystem.
  • Debriefing a challenge course element with a group of students.
  • Assisting a family going out for their first canoe ride together.
  • Brainstorming program strategies with team members for an upcoming special needs school group.

This job is for you if:

You like helping people. You get a kick out of getting kids to those aha! moments. You are patient, level-headed, and cool under pressure. Teaching someone something new makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

You enjoy solving problems. You love taking on challenges and finding creative solutions. You don’t get flustered easily. If you don’t know the answer, you’ll dig until you find it.

You pay attention to details. You stay focused, strive to be better, and learn from your mistakes.

You think on your feet. You enjoy learning new things, and you can learn quickly. When things change, you know how to roll with the punches.

You care like crazy. You have a love of the outdoors, you enjoy working with others and you want to inspire people. You’re comfortable taking people through new experiences – and they feel comfortable with you leading them.

You are motivated and driven. You volunteer for new challenges without waiting to be asked. You’re going to take ownership of the time you spend with others and truly make a difference.

To land this gig:

You need to have experience leading and helping others in a professional setting, preferably at a camp and/or adventure programs. Internships, volunteer work and side projects count. Just make sure we can see where you picked up your helping-people super powers in your cover letter and resume.

Oh yeah…

There’s compensation commensurate with experience, housing available on camp, opportunities for certification and professional development, and a supportive community in an inspirational, natural setting.

Application deadline is August 10th, 2018.
