Nokomis' Extended Kindergarten Program is celebrating the first day of October with an autumn collage! Our Kindergarteners were actively creating an arts & crafts collage with various autumn stamps including leaves, pumpkins, roses, etc.
This week campers and staff are divided into the four houses of Harry Potter; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each camper and staff member have the opportunity to earn points, for their assigned house, throughout the week in each activity period. Points are even earned when a camper or staff member wear the color of their house! During special events this week the campers and staff members have been playing the Harry Potter game Quidditch, without the brooms, of course. Friday will be the championship game! Our current scores for the houses are: Griffindor: 924 Ravenclaw: 976 Hufflepuff: 1,005 Slytherin: [...]
This morning, the School's Out program at Chairville Elementary was able to experience touring a military helicopter that landed on the school’s baseball field yesterday morning. Yesterday, the helicopter had to make an emergency landing on the property as the helicopter was experiencing mechanical problems. While the military helicopter was still waiting for the parts to deliver, the School’s Out participants were able to get a tour of the helicopter!
As the last children were being picked up on Thursday, May 2nd, from the School’s Out program at Indian Mills Elementary, a hummingbird flew into the cafeteria. He was flying back and forth high up in the ceiling grid. With no outside doors, there was no way for him to find his way out. The custodians did not know how to get him out. One suggested sucking him into the vacuum. Ann and I left feeling worried about his fate. When I arrived Friday morning, the hummingbird was still flying around the cafeteria ceiling. When Meredith, one of our School’s [...]
It's that time of year where hiring paperwork is rolling in, staff are visting camp now that college is starting to end, and the final countdown of summer has begun! There is only 54 more days until the first session of Lake Stockwell Day Camp. We still have lots to do and lots to plan before 200+ campers arrive that Monday morning. With a new pre-school program, another village, an indoor sport court, and field trips for our explorers, this is going to be the best summer in Stockwell history! I'm sure ready! Are you?
Floating around camp there is a video called “The Fish! Philosophy”. This video has been shown to our staff and sometimes incorporated into our CIT and LIT programs. About this time last year, I watched the video for the first time. I was amazed about culture of Seattle’s Pike Place Fish Market, where the video takes place. Although just getting up and going to work or school can be challenging some days, your day will depend on how you make it. Below is The Fish! Philosophy. I challenge you to apply their philosophy in your everyday life whether it’s at [...]
Today at Neeta School's Out program the kids are gearing up for Easter! They spent their afternoon dying Easter eggs for the holiday. A special thanks to Kimmie and Erin for providing such a fun activity and Nick Homa from the Kitchen for boiling the eggs! =) From our family to yours... HAPPY EASTER!
I once opened a fortune cookie that read “achievement will come with such hard work”. I think about this statement all of the time throughout my leadership in Lake Stockwell Day Camp and School’s Out. Exactly one week ago from today marked my second year, full time, here at Camp Ockanickon. Looking back, these last two years has been such a personal success for me. Not only have I had the opportunity of working here, I have had the opportunity to professional grow through multiple trainings, conferences, and networking events. Although some days are more rewarding than others and some [...]
One of my all time favorite camp songs is Flee Fly. Not only do all the campers get really into it but so does the Stockwell staff. Throughout the summer we hold two staff Flee Fly relay races in which the campers sing the song as loud as they can and 4 teams of 2 counselors race to the Ockanickon Dam and back to the Dining Hall. Is it summer yet?! Flee Fly - repeat me song flee flee fly flee fly flow flee scott acumalouda acumalouda acumalouda escot no no no not tenescot escamany salimany do ought do oughtimany [...]
