Hey everyone!!

Did you know… back in the kitchen here at Camp we are beginning to compost our fruit and vegetable scraps?

When feeding the volumes of people we feed we produce peels and trimmings from cucumbers, lettuce, cantaloupe, tomatoes, onions, etc, etc… and we thought it was high time we start turning those scraps in to treasure!! Compost!!

My Assistant, Nick and I have prepared a rudimentary area for the process and have revived 2 old composters that Camp had hanging around, collecting dust.

Our hopes is that we can produce some quality usable compost for distribution around Camp’s various flowerbeds and even our new greenhouse!!

Nick and I are amateurs at this point but we have found a very cool… and FREE… composting workshop down the road at Kirby Brothers on Main Street in downtown Medford. Hopefully we will come away from the workshop better armed to produce a quality end product with our composting efforts.

Pictured below is our double chamber compost tumbler and the first pile of our amateur composting efforts.

If anyone has any tips or tricks to successful composting you can email either Nick or myself at nick@ycamp.org or jason@ycamp.org.

Thanks for reading!!

Be good…

Chef Jason
