Winter Meeting!

By |2012-02-21T06:58:59-05:00February 21st, 2012|

We had an awesome weekend here at the YMCA Camps of Medford! On Saturday, February 18th we had some of our incrediable Summer Camp Staff join us for a day of planning, chatting and getting ready for Camp! We talked about everything from Staff Training to the New Inflatables to Special Events! I just wanted to take a moment to thank those staff that volunteered their time this weekend. It's people like our staff that make Camp so great. Their hard work and dedication are just a few reasons why people call Camp their "Favorite Place on Earth" :)

A family tradition…

Hello all… It’s been a while since we’ve seen a recipe from me here in the kitchen at Camp but my winter hibernation is over and I thought I’d jump right out of the blocks with recipe that had become a faded tradition to my family. The Chrusciki is a delicious, unleavened pastry that, for my family, comes  to us from our Polish heritage. […]

President’s Day Weekend.

By |2012-02-18T14:47:07-05:00February 18th, 2012|

President’s Day Weekend has been a very special here at YMCA Camps of Medford for the Morris & Barrett families for years. Since I came to Camp three winters ago, I have been able to share some amazing stories with these two families, who make up well over a hundred years of camping […]

A Grateful Camp Director

Climbing walls are nice.  A beautiful lake is helpful.  Canoes, arrows, paint brushes, and kickballs come in handy.  But none of our resources compares to our amazing staff and volunteers.  None of our facilities, equipment, or our physical property make "Camp" happen.  It is our counselors, food service staff, nursing staff, maintenance staff, administrative staff, and volunteers that makes "Camp" happen.  It's people that make "Camp" happen. I am reminded of this all of the time.  Last night, I was able to go bowling with a handful of our summer staff from all 3 camps that are here in Medford [...]

School’s Out…

By |2012-02-16T08:25:39-05:00February 16th, 2012|

This week I have been in and out of Taunton Forge Elementary, one of our School's Out sites. The children have had a busy week while playing Valentine Bingo, eating ice cream from their Valentine's Day party, and of course, playing outside. On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to assist Aidan Kehoe in building various buildings out of Lincoln Logs. It was great to see his imagination at it's best as he created a building for the two men, Bob & Jackson, to guard from the "bad guys". Lynn Passarella Assistant School's Out Director

What is a controlled burn?

By |2012-02-11T08:05:33-05:00February 11th, 2012|

Last Friday, the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service came out to the YMCA Camps of Medford to help us protect our 700 acres of Pinelands Property. A controlled burn, which is the process of setting small, circular fires (under the very watchful eyes of trained NJ Forest Fire Fighters) is […]

The Day General MacArthur Rigged the Bids

By |2012-02-11T01:00:34-05:00February 11th, 2012|

I found this story in the archives a few years back and was amazed when I read it.  Some of our younger readers may not know who General Douglas MacArthur is, but you will once you get to World War II in History class.  It always amazes me to see how Camp ties in with U.S. and/or world history.  We sometimes feel secluded and sheltered from the “outside world” when we are at Camp, but in the past 106 years, Camp has rolled on from summer to summer through significant world events including WWI, the Great Depression, WWII, and the [...]
