Hello dear friends…

Did you know we cater events here at Camp? I hope you did… but if not, now you do!

My staff and I, with the help of the Group Services Staff and just about every one else around Camp prepared for and hosted a magical weekend wedding event over the last three days.

Many hours were spent transforming all of Matolly in to a “destination wedding retreat” for our new friends Nick and Kate. Roads were groomed, the dining hall was scrubbed and polished, leaves were raked, chafing dishes were shined…

A simple BBQ dinner was served to a small portion of the wedding party and set-up crew of Friday night followed by a masterful wedding day brunch Saturday morning. Although the forecast was grey, the rain held off and allowed our bride and groom to say their vows at the Ockanickon Chapel followed by a hayride back to the Matolly Dining Hall for the reception.

150 friends and family filled the beautifully transformed Matolly Dining Hall for good food and hours of dancing and celebrating.

As I told the beautiful new couple on Sunday before their departure… the history of YMCA Camp Ockanickon began 105 years ago in 1906. Many lives have been touched by it’s spirit (mine included) and an almost infinite number of stories creates the fabric of it’s existence… and now, Nick and Kate… you are a part of that.

Congratulations to Nick and Kate. May your lives be filled with all the luck and love you can handle. It was a blessing for me and for Camp to be a part of this beautiful union. Thank you for sharing this wonderful event with us. Don’t be strangers now… come back and see us soon!!

Be good…

Chef Jason
