Hello dear friends… Did you know we cater events here at Camp? I hope you did… but if not, now you do! My staff and I, with the help of the Group Services Staff and just about every one else around Camp prepared for and hosted a magical weekend wedding event over the last three days. Many hours were spent transforming all of Matolly in to a “destination wedding retreat” for our new friends Nick and Kate. Roads were groomed, the dining hall was scrubbed and polished, leaves were raked, chafing dishes were shined… […]

Helping out where I can..

We all remember Hurricane Irene who roared through the entire East Coast late last month. Thousands of people were impacted from Irene and people have still been struggling to get back onto their feet. YMCA Camps of Medford was extremely fortunate to come out with only a few downed trees, but a handful of our fellow YMCA summer camps were not so lucky. YMCA Camp Mason was without power for a handful of days and Frost Valley YMCA […]

Red-Tailed Hawks

By |2011-09-23T12:28:10-04:00September 23rd, 2011|

We received a really cool phone call yesterday.  Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge had 2 Red-Tailed Hawks that they had rehabilitated and wanted to release into the wild and they wanted to do it here at Camp.  Both hawks had been involved with collisions and Cedar Run had nursed them back to health.  They brought them out to Headquarters and released them in front of 7 or 8 excited Camp Staff members.  Both hawks flew up into trees where they remained for the rest of the afternoon.  One even tried to catch a squirrel within moments of being released.  That was [...]

School’s Out Craft!

By |2011-09-22T06:28:03-04:00September 22nd, 2011|

This week at Nokomis School’s Out program the students crafted a fish simply made out of coffee filters. Students were able to choose marker colors of their choice to color the coffee filter with.  With water added to the filter, the colors blended together to create a tie dye look. Students then cut out the filter into a fish shape and pasted it on a blue construction paper. Students were then able to add their own finishing touches to their fish. The finish products turned out great! Thank you Helene, Erin H., and Erin S. for making School’s Out at [...]

BELIEVE

By |2011-09-21T10:49:27-04:00September 21st, 2011|

The start to a better world is our belief that it is possible. Believe in your dreams. Believe in today. Believe that you make a difference. Believe we can build a better world. Believe when others might not. Believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Believe that you might be that light for someone else. Believe that the best is yet to be. Believe in each other. Believe in yourself. I believe in you. ~Kobi Yamada

Thought of the Day

By |2011-09-19T07:57:54-04:00September 19th, 2011|

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN  1.   YOU WILL RECEIVE A BODY.  You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.  2.   YOU WILL LEARN LESSONS.  You are enrolled in a full-time, informal school called life.  Each day in the school, you will be presented with opportunities to learn what you most need to know.  The lessons presented are often completely different from the ones you think you need.  3.   THERE ARE NO MISTAKES, ONLY LESSONS.  Growth is a process of trial and error, and experimentation.  You can learn as much from [...]
