We Survived!

By |2011-03-30T05:15:07-04:00March 30th, 2011|

Congratulations to Kayla and the rest of the survival experts here at camp on their successful completion of the first ever Intro to Wilderness Survival program. The program ended Monday evening with a race around camp that incorporated all the survival elements the group had learned over the course of the program. As the program drew to a close each person left camp with their very own survival kit, including a compass, fishing line and hook, a candle, a bandana, and an array of other items. If you’re interested in more programs like this one feel free to join us [...]

Two Choices

By |2011-03-28T05:24:36-04:00March 28th, 2011|

This is a Thought of the Day that we sometimes use during Staff Orientation and before the Ocky Olympics at Boys Camp.  I received this quite a few years back as an email forwarded to me by Gary Graham.  I still can't read it without tearing up.  When read as a Thought of the Day, whoever is reading it usually needs another person or two as a back-up to take over reading if the first person gets too choked up.  I hope you enjoy it.  Its message is very powerful. TITANIC

By |2011-03-23T20:15:16-04:00March 23rd, 2011|

This is my all-time favorite Camp song, hands down.  It almost disappeared a few years back, but I'm glad to say that it is still a Camp favorite and is always sung at the Blue Feather Banquet every session.  Does anyone else have a favorite they'd like to share? Titanic Oh they built the ship, Titanic, to sail the ocean blue, And they thought they had a ship, that the water wouldn’t go through But the Good Lord’s raised his hand and said, “This ship would never land.” Chorus: It was sad when the great ship went down, hit the [...]

Going, Going, Green!

By |2011-03-22T15:00:09-04:00March 22nd, 2011|

This past week, as you might have heard from Gab’s post, I was at the ACA Tri-State Camping Conference. The conference is a great opportunity for camps of all kinds to get together and hear from some of the leaders in the camping world. I attended a session on creating a competitive advantage by going green. It was a very interesting session and gave me a lot of ideas about what I can take back to camp to help us make a positive impact on the place we are responsible for. One little fact I learned from another camp was [...]

The Spotlight Is On You

By |2011-03-20T15:00:13-04:00March 20th, 2011|

Hello dear readers… This is the first post, in what I hope to be a spectacular addition to our beloved Camp Blog. The “Guest Blogger”. This idea is probably just as old as the concept of blogging itself… which actually isn’t very old. The concept of blogging began in the late 1990’s and has grown to an estimated 156 million blogs in existence today. Professional writers and dedicated bloggers would take turns posting entries on each others blogs in an effort to share new ideas and stories with new audiences… and potentially attract new readers to their own work. The [...]

Blue, Red, and Green Pride!

Thank you to all of our staff and volunteers who helped out getting Camp spruced up over the past week and giving our prospective families some amazing tours!  As you can imagine, the winter weather was pretty rough on the property and it took a lot of work to get the things ready for Open House.  It meant a lot to us that so many of our summer staff came in to help the year-round crew with the clean-up effort.  A big thank you goes out to Nurse Peggy's husband and son, Dave Sr. and Dave Jr. for all of [...]

Learn to Cook: Cookies!!

By |2011-03-13T17:00:53-04:00March 13th, 2011|

Hello everyone... This Friday, Chef Nick and I hosted our fourth and final "Learn to Cook" class of the session. After spending 3 weeks with our aspiring Chefs learning about Italian food, Mexican food and homemade pizza we let the kids decide what our final lesson would entail... and cookies were the unanimous decision. We gave our Chefs a basic cookie dough recipe and some toppings to choose from and set them to task. The results were astounding!! Some of the most perfect cookies I have seen in all my years as a Chef... perfect and delecious!! Chef Nick and [...]
