Horseback Riding

Horseback Riding at Camp!

YMCA Camp Ockanickon, Inc. is proud to announce our partnership with Suffolk Stables for the 2016 camp season!  We are very excited to offer this new program to our campers, as well as the community!

Suffolk Stables will be providing lessons for Camp Ockanickon, Camp Matollionequay and Lake Stockwell Day Camp during our 2016 season.*  Space is limited!
See below for more information about registering.
They will also offer a horseback riding only camp on select weeks in the summer.  Please visit their website, for more information on the horseback riding camps they offer.

With Suffolk, safety and fun are the main priorities. They provide a secure environment for students to work, learn and grow…all while having fun and developing new relationships.  Students of Suffolk Stables will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to achieve their goals both in and out of the horse riding ring.

Suffolk Stables lessons at camp is open to both boys and girls, ages 8-16, and provide the opportunity for developing equestrians to become more confident in their abilities and comfortable within a community of riders.  The lessons are for one hour a day, 5 days per week.  Campers will learn to handle horses both on the ground and in the saddle by grooming, tacking and untacking their horse before and after their horse riding lesson. Intermediate and advanced riders will learn training techniques in and out of the saddle, while having fun and making new friends!  Campers are also encouraged to participate in other aspects of horse care, including feeding, bathing and providing medical care…all under the supervision of our experienced instructors.  Campers are educated in the proper use of horse equipment, such as ‘Sport’ boots and ‘Splint’ boots, different horse bits for different horses and saddle fittings. This “Total Horsemanship” approach gives students a sense of responsibility and a well-rounded education in horsemanship.  Classes are set up to match riders to each other’s skill levels, whether it be an absolute beginner or a seasoned jumper.

To register for horseback riding while your child attends camp, please choose the horseback riding option under “Additional Services” while registering.
