True Teamwork…

Posted by on Aug 31, 2011

Hello everyone… When the call goes out for help around Camp, people listen and respond. Being a little shorthanded last Friday due to the departure of 2 of my wonderful International Staff members, the clock was ticking for us to get our famous Pretzel Melts ready for Day Camp to enjoy for lunch. I put a call out and within 3 minutes I had 4 of the most wonderfully helpful Lake Stockwell Staff and one CIT at my door ready to go. Thanks to everyone who pitchend in Friday and ANY day we need it… especially thru the wild and wet weekend we just had when Hurricane Irene stopped by for a visit. The staff were instrumental in getting the entire Camp “secured” for the gusty winds and heavy rain. Be good… Chef...

This is a favorite song of mine that is sung during Candlelight of Session 4… PERFECT DAY When you come to the end of a perfect day, and you sit alone with your thoughts. And the chimes ring out with a carol gay for the joy that the day has brought. Do you think what the end of a perfect day can mean to a tired heart? When the sun goes down with a flaming ray and the dear friends have to part. Well this is the end of a perfect day near the end of a journey too. And it leaves a thought that is big and strong with a wish that is kind and true. For a memory has painted this perfect day in colors that never fade. And you’ll find at the end of a perfect day the soul of a friend you’ve made. Thank you to all the campers and staff for making this the most perfect summer!  See you next...

Thank you!

We all know how incredible Camp is and we all know how special it is to receive a Blue, Green or Red Feather! But, did you know that we award a Tri-Feather? This is the highest honor that a staff member can receive here, at Camp. These Tri-Feather Staff Members are those that go above-and-beyond everything they do for our Campers. Their display of the Four Core Values is wonderful and they are nothing but Professional Role Models. I just wanted to take a moment to thank Stockwell’s Tri-Feather Staff Members – Gaby Lestino and Cristina Donofrio – You both were excellent role models for our Campers as well as Staff. You have helped make this one of the best summers Stockwell has ever...

Summer coming to a close…

Posted by on Aug 21, 2011

Hello folks… Well… summer is winding down out here in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey. Our Resident Camps ended on Friday and our Day Camp has only 2 more weeks to go. We are switching gears here to welcome all of the fantastic Conference groups who will be visiting us this season. I would like to extend a heart felt Thank You to each and every staff member who worked (and is working) with all of our Campers this year. They gave it everything they had and then some to make sure all in attendance had a fun, safe and memorable experience. Personally I’d like to thank the folks pictured here… my Staff. Betty, Gary, Alma, Nick, Fernando, Kostantyn, Andres, Tzu-Yu and Mario. This is the gang behind the scenes, working hard to feed each and every hungry mouth that came thru our Dining Hall doors and offered a great meal with a side order of kindness and smiles. (Don’t tell anyone this but aside form all the preperations and cooking back there, we have heaps and heaps of fun too!!!) Come out and see us soon!! Be good… Chef...

Off Camp Adventure

Posted by on Aug 19, 2011

This summer sixty five campers participated in the Ranger program, the off camp tripping program offered at our overnight camps. Over the course of six trips this year Matolly and Ocky combined to cover close to 132 miles on the Delaware River and 96 miles on the Appalachian Trail. While many times the focus at camp is on building a community through activities that emphasize our core values, the Ranger program is tasked with taking that community off of camp into an unknown wilderness. Throughout the summer the Rangers tackled scorching hot weather and plenty of rain while traversing their way through the rivers and trails that make up their seven day journey. I had the pleasure of joining the Ockanickon Rangers for the last hike through the Appalachian trail this journey and rekindling my own love of this unique camp program. The true test of the program is to create a feeling of community with young men that experience fatigue, hunger, and pain. When sharing the load with your fellow man and accomplishing a goal together, a true sense of community is formed. Congratulations to every single Ranger this summer! Well...
